London: the worst place in the UK to be a woman
Women in London are having problems. According to research, comparing London to the rest of the UK, women in London are less likely to work, get paid less than their male colleagues and have a high risk of getting sexually assaulted. Unemployment rates among women are rising and several cuts have been made which damage the financial situation of women. Experts fear the chance of women falling below the poverty line. The fact that women earn a lot less money than men is explained by the fact that men just have higher jobs and also work fulltime. A petition has been filed to raise awareness of the inequality between women and men.

This is an important article! It is a shame that there is so much inequality between men and women in London! I am not aware of how these rates are in the Netherlands. This is the 21st century, it is possible to walk on the moon but it is not possible to make arrangements for women to go to work? It is important for women to be able to work, since more and more women are single or single-mothers, so they need to be able to provide for themselves and maybe their children.
I was shocked when I read the article in the guardian. Sexual violence is higher in London than anywhere else and women get less paid as men. I agree that it is important to be financially independent as a woman. It is the same in our country. Women are still less paid than men. What about a third feministic movement I think we need one.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI agree with Rini and Elvera, women should get paid as much as men, especcially since women often are the family's breadwinners nowadays. The amount of sexual violence in the UK is new to me. I was in London a couple of months ago and it struck me that men tend to be very polite and kind to women. There could be a difference between the several London districts. Probably I would have noticed these kinds of assaults if I had gone to other districts or stayed in London for a longer period of time.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDo not blame London. The sexual harassment and the difference in income is a worldwide phenomenon. It is directly related to our physiology. We are the ones that bear the children and to whom they children cling to for milk. We are simply not as convenient employees when compared to men for we are the ones that get pregnant, have these hormonal issues and request maternity leave. Luckily we women have other great qualities. Persuade and tempt London to pay us more respect. …And money.
